Principal Swim Instructor Job Description
Reports to: General Manager
Description: Drive successful SafeSplash business through excellence in Swimming Instruction. Principal Swim Instructor responsible for in-water lessons, instructor training, in-location marketing, connecting with similar businesses to help drive swimmers to lessons, and other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Swimming Instruction–works closely with General Manager to teach the highest quality of lessons possible to small groups, semi-private groups and private individuals.
- Instructor Training –Work with General Manager to train incoming and current swim instructors in the "SafeSplash Way." Help General Manager with recruiting new instructors, hiring, orienting, scheduling, and training employees; maintain a safe and secure work environment; develop a positive work culture that encourages employee growth
- Works closely with the General Manager to accomplish these goals on the swim side of the business
- In-Location marketing during off hours to drive business.
- Connect with parents and swimmers to ensure that lessons are going well, expectations are being met, and swimmers are being recognized.
Customer Relations – Responsible for the customer experience at SafeSplash. Help maintain quality customer service by enforcing high customer service standards amongst all instructors. Analyze and resolve customer service problems, identify trends, developing and implementing improvement strategies.
Marketing– Responsible for location marketing efforts. Works closely with the General Manager to implement corporate material. Help General Manager with local grassroots efforts and community outreach to local programs.
Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications and Requirements:
- 2 years of swimmer instructor experience and competitive swimming experience
- Experience using spreadsheets and word processing software such as Microsoft Windows
- Detail-oriented: pays attention to everything, is able to troubleshoot, and make decisions
- A Team-driven leader: cares about staff and leads with the intent to build up the whole team
- Exceptional guest relations and communication skills
- Outstanding multi-tasking abilities: able to handle and coordinate multiple schedules; keep swim instructors and clients on time.
- Happy disposition; hospitable and caring
- Schedule: Teach in water lessons Monday -Thursday afternoons with rare Friday afternoons for special customer events. Teach Saturday and Sunday mornings. Flexible schedule for marketing and other efforts.
- Preferred Skills:
- Swim Lesson and/or competitive swimming experience: knowledge of the four basic strokes, teaching curriculum, and stroke progression
- Certifications:
- Current Red Cross Lifeguard or equivalent
- WSI - Water Safety Instructor certification, a big plus
- CPR-PR/AED, First Aid for Adult, Child certification
- High School Graduate. College graduate preferred
Uniforms: Principal Instructor is required to wear SafeSplash uniforms provided by General Manager. Additional uniforms must be purchased by the employee from SafeSplash at or below cost. The uniform must be maintained in a clean, professional manner. If at any time a supervisor determines an employee’s uniform is inappropriate, management may require the employee to purchase an additional uniform. If at any time a uniform is not being worn during assigned instructing hours a supervisor will ask you to put on your uniform.
Hours: Full Time Salaried Position
Compensation: $30,000 annual salary
